The story line in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary takes place several years after the events of the original game, The Pillar of Autumn. There are two sides to this Arena battle, the Covenant and the allies. In this multiplayer mode, players choose a character and start the game at ground level, with all other players joining you after you've activated the console command" Arena". Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary features a new multiplayer mode called "Arena", which can be played alone or head to head with an artificially intelligent computer. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary retains much of the content and gameplay of its predecessors, delivering new technologies and features never seen before in a Halo game.

It is the follow up to Halo: Combat Evolved and the Anniversary edition of Halo: Combat Evolved. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is an upgraded version of Halo: Combat Evolved released in 2011.
